Instructions and directions for use:
1. Before First Use
Boiling your Kyusu will make it less likely to get dirty and keep it clean longer. By first moistening it sufficiently, it moderately prevents dirt from entering the small holes on the surface.
How to “boil” Tokoname Kyusu before use
1-1. Fill a pot with hot water and place your Kyusu in the water.
1-2. Boil the water. Once the water comes to a boil, simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes.
1-3. After boiling, as your Kyusu is very hot immediately after boiling, allow some time for it to cool before removing it from the pot.
1-4. Let your Kyusu sit overnight to dry naturally.
2. After Brewing Tea
Do not leave tea leaves in your Kyusu. Leaving tea leaves in your Kyusu will not only transfer the smell and color to the teapot, but will also leave the tea leaves stuck to your Kyusu and dry out, making it difficult to scrub them off with a brush.
To keep Tokoname Kyusu clean, we recommend washing it by hand each time.
Also, it is easier to remove tea stains if you wash it with hot water instead of cold water.
It is recommended that no detergent be used, as the smell may be transferred to your Kyusu.
Please do not use a dishwasher, expose it to open fire, or microwave it.
The spout of your Kyusu and the base of its body tend to accumulate tea stains.
Use a fine brush for the spout or a cotton swab to scrub and clean it.
Another recommended cleaning method is to use the water pressure of the tap water.
Pour water directly into the spout and clean it thoroughly with the water flow.
After washing your Kyusu, it is very important to dry it thoroughly.
Water tends to remain in your Kyusu, and because the surface is bumpy, it is easy for bacteria to grow on the remaining water.
With the spout down, dry the inside of your Kyusu, and even the inside of the spout thoroughly so that no water droplets remain.
After washing, do not put the lid on immediately. Dry it thoroughly before putting the lid back on again.

I’ve been searching online for my first ideal kyusu for a long time until I found this one. The soft red gradient on the bottom of the kyusu is very nice. I would say the practical capacity including leaves is ~140mL which is great for daily use.
I was worried about the fragility as I’m located in Australia, however it was packaged extremely well by Tomoe-san. I really appreciate how I was kept up to date with my order status from beginning to end. Thank you again!
